Values Compass — Finding Direction Under Stress
A compass-style visual for clarifying what matters when goals feel far away or motivation is low.

Values are directions, not destinations
In ACT, values are chosen qualities of action — how you want to show up in life. Unlike goals, you never "complete" a value. You can always move toward connection, courage, or kindness, even in small ways.
Why a compass?
When stress, depression, or anxiety pull attention inward, it's easy to lose sight of direction. A compass doesn't eliminate obstacles — it helps you orient. This visual asks a simple question:
Even with difficult thoughts and feelings present, which direction still matters to you today?
Committed action follows
Once a direction feels clearer, committed action is the next step: tiny, workable moves aligned with that value. You don't need to feel ready. You need a direction and a next step small enough to take.
Try it
Pick one quadrant of the compass. Write one 5-minute action you could take today in that direction — even if mood says otherwise.
